All eyes are on stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra as he faces scrutiny following a police summons related to alleged derogatory remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Mumbai police have asked Kamra to appear for questioning on Monday, March 31.
Kamra had previously sought a seven-day extension after an earlier summons, an official confirmed. “In the second notice issued, he has been instructed to appear before the police on March 31,” the official stated.
The controversy stems from Kamra’s recent performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, where he performed a parody song aimed at Shinde. The act triggered backlash from Shiv Sena supporters, leading to vandalism at the club and the hotel where it is located on Sunday night.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed against Kamra by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, leading to his booking by Khar police. Meanwhile, the police arrested 12 Shiv Sena members, including leader Rahool Kanal, for damaging the venue where Kamra’s show was recorded. However, they were granted bail within hours of their arrest.
Additionally, the Maharashtra Legislative Council has admitted a breach of privilege notice against Kamra over his alleged remarks.
As per his Instagram bio, Kamra is currently in Puducherry.
